About Tawnya

Love is funny thing , it is many things to many people, for me it is more than a feeling. It is more than a action, it is the beauty and balance of having both action and breathe.

It is my pleasure to welcome you to my home on the internet ..my blog. My name is Tawnya Harteli and I am the owner and designer for House of Harte. Ever since I can remember I have always loved stitch crafts of all types.

In my younger years I started with embroidery, and then went on to beading and finally crocheting. I was bathed in the beauty and creativity of my grandmother ,mother and grandfather. They created beautiful home decor and fashions for the home and to wear.

I started crocheting in my mid teens, my very first project was  granny square blanket that had a ton of colors. I loved the way it looked when i finally finished it. I wish I still had it now but I can clearly remember what colors I used to create it. All donations of yarn from my mother and grandmother's yarn supply.

For years I would crochet off and on until the age of 28 when I began to play around with designing crochet fashions for myself and others. My first order was for a backless dress for a girl who had her own cosmetic company called Seven. I played around with the design of that dress and needless she never came to get the dress. However, I repurposed it into a A line skirt , but i forgot to put a drawstring in it. It was the first design I created from my head.

Fast forward to 2008, I received an order for a sweater coat. In greens and gold. I sold that coat for $120 my biggest order ever. I also went on to design tops for summer. It was then that I decided that I wanted to make this crochet thing I loved into a business.

I went through several names before arriving at House of Harte in August of 2009. It was perfect a play on my last name,it also represented the essence of me and that is love. I create every piece I design with love. It is my hope that the love I share will be imparted to the prospective owner.

INFLUENCE

My designs are inspired by love and my affinity for anything vintage. Every piece is designed  with love and a certain aesthetic from the past. It was shopping excursions with my late grandmother  and the crafting trips with my mother that led me to love handcrafted goodies from an era that has rapidly disappeared. I know that through the work of my hands , this gift that God has given me that I spread a little love to all of my clientele, family and friends. Most importantly i am able to share my faith through my work, because it is with each stitch that I say a little prayer for the recipient.
